Laborie

  • KWV bought Laborie in 1972 and immediately set about turning it into a world class estate. In 1977, the Manor House at Laborie was proclaimed a national monument.

Built in 1750, is described in the standard work “Old House Of The Cape” (Hans Franzens and Mary Cook) as the most important house in an architectural sense in the Paarl area.

The architecture of the Laborie Estate buildings was known in historical architectural circles as one of the best examples of the Cape Dutch farm and “werf”.

And Laborie’s architectural feats did not stop there. The foundations of the South African Parliament building were built of granite from a quarry on Laborie land.

With their knowledge of French viticultural techniques, the Taillefert family laid a solid foundation of vineyards and outstanding wine production that is evident today, three hundred years later, in Laborie’s wines of distinction..
