South African Coffee Pinotage

Pinotage is a South African crossing between Pinot Noir and Cinsault (formally known as Hermitage) that produces full, rustic and outright delicious wines!

The first Diemersfontein Pinotage 2001 made by winemaker Bertrus Fourie wrote the South African wine history for Coffee Pinotage. With characteristic coffee and chocolate flavour, the Diemersfontein Pinotage is the prototype and the original Pinotage in this ‘Barrista’ style.

This atypical South African Pinotage is made in a style that enhances rich and round coffee, chocolate and spice characters in the wine. You have to taste it to believe it.

To achieve the ‘Coffee’ style, specific grape selection takes place in the initial stages of production. Cultured yeast strains are then selected for fermentation to enhance the desired coffee and chocolate characters. Heavily toasted oak staves are then added to the tanks during maturation to further enhance coffee characters rather than traditional vanilla notes.

Diemersfontein Coffee Pinotage has developed a following around this wine style and every year the POT Festival (Pinotage on Tap) celebrates the new vintage, which is served out of barrels with matched side dishes, such chocolate fondue!

There exists a passion at Diemersfontein that is impossible to overlook.

The Diemersfontein range of wines encapsulates the magnificence, elegance and grace of this estate and the passion of its people and makes every sip of our wines a magical experience.
