Home of Pierre Jourdan – Where great wines are grown
Haute Cabrière’scommitment to family, quality and innovation has resulted in a name known as much for the warm and welcoming atmosphere, as for the iconic red and white crest of their founding family.
Haute Cabrière. Haute: a word denoting the highest pinnacle of an art form.
At Haute Cabrière the meaning is two-fold: high-quality wines produced high up on the Franschhoek Pass, where the iconic winery is situated.
Of German descent, the von Arnims are renowned for their pioneering spirit and innovative approach to winemaking.
The farm was established in the Franschhoek Valley in 1694 by French Huguenot, Pierre Jourdan.
The von Arnim family has remained at the heart of Haute Cabrière throughout its history. Achim von Arnim’s son, Achim Jr., took over the winery in 2001, continuing the legacy with the same passion and dedication. This generational commitment to winemaking is integral to the estate’s success, ensuring that time-honoured traditions and innovative techniques are passed down and preserved.
Head of the family, Achim von Arnim, was amongst the first Cap Classique creators in South Africaand was the very first to consider creating a still wine from traditional Champagne varietals. His vision resulted in the now iconic Haute Cabrière Chardonnay Pinot Noirstill blend.
‘’40 years ago, when I first discovered the charm of the village, she was like a sleeping beauty waiting to be awoken. I believe that with the creation of our first bottle of wine, the Pierre Jourdan Brut, we did just that, allowing all to meet and enjoy the awe of Franschhoek’’ – ACHIM VON ARNIM, FOUNDER & PATRON
Custom in the Champagne Valley of France dictates that Champagne created from the vines of the land is named after the landowner. True to this tradition, founder of Haute Cabrière, Achim von Arnim, named the first range of exceptional Cap Classique wines Pierre Jourdan after the original landowner.
This range remains the perfect ode to the original owner in South Africa’s ‘French Corner’, Franschhoek. Their portfolio has since grown to include two more beloved wine ranges, Haute Cabrière, housing the iconic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and their Haute Collection, their maverick collection of site-specific wines.
Second generation Cellar Master, Takuan von Arnim, continues to grow the family legacy with a passion and respect for the winery’s heritage, integrity and spirit of innovation.
Under his guidance, Haute Cabrière continues to be a part of many wine lovers’ most cherished memories.
Haute Cabrière also understands the importance of giving back to the community. Their involvement in various social initiatives and their support for local charities have made them a valued member of the Franschhoek community.
This sense of responsibility and community engagement is another aspect that makes Haute Cabrièrewines more than just beverages; they are a symbol of South African pride.
The von Arnims’ fingerprints can be found throughout every part of the winery and visiting Haute Cabrière is an experience that goes beyond wine tasting.
The estate’s cellar door is a welcoming space where visitors can learn about the winemaking process, explore the history of the estate, and, of course, sample the outstanding wines. The picturesque views of the Franschhoek Valley serve as a backdrop to this immersive journey into the world of Haute Cabrière.
