Ah Tassenberg - “Good Old Tassies”

Ah, Tassenberg.

For many ex pat South Africans, just the mention of this name is enough to evoke memories of simpler times, of good friends, and of many a wild night spent in the company of those we love. This humble wine, has been a staple of our social lives for decades, and it’s no wonder why.

For those of us who grew up in South Africa, Tassenberg was a ubiquitous presence at every social gathering. Whether it was a braai (barbeque), a rugby game, or just a casual get-together with friends, you could always count on someone showing up with a bottle of this beloved wine in tow. And with its affordable price point and smooth taste, it quickly became the go-to choice for many of us.

But Tassenberg was more than just a wine. It was a symbol of our shared experiences, a way to connect with one another and reminisce about days gone by. It was a way to celebrate our heritage and to keep a small piece of South Africa with us no matter where we went.

And let’s not forget the unforgettable lyrics of Koos Kombuis in “Lente in die Boland”, where he sings about “Tassenberg en paraffienlampe”, reminding us of those nostalgic moments spent with loved ones in the great outdoors.

Now, as we find ourselves living abroad, far from the familiar sights and sounds of home, Tassenberg takes on an even greater significance. It’s a way to stay connected to our roots, to hold onto the memories of those carefree days spent with friends and family.

So here’s to you, Tassenberg. Thank you for being a part of our lives, for bringing us together, and for reminding us of where we come from. We have Tassenberg available in Australia.

May you continue to be a beloved part of South African culture for generations to come. Cheers!
